(AFP) – German Chancellor Angela Merkel sits at the wheel of an Opel vehicle in Frankfurt. The US automaker General Motors has scrapped its on-again, off-again plan to sell its European arm Opel which deals a blow to Merkel who had backed the move to sell Opel to a Canadian firm as the best way of saving German jobs.
