The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia may be celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, but the institution’s collection has had a dodgy existence, shifting from place to place over the last century. At one point, the collection was even housed in a powder magazine on Citadel Hill on the edge of downtown Halifax. But now, as the museum celebrates its centenary, director Ray Cronin has vowed to give the art the home it deserves.

A Newfoundland and Labrador man who was thought to have taken his own life in 2006 may be in British Columbia.According to a news release issued this week by the RCMP based in the Lumby/Cherryville, B.C., area, police are looking for Bruce Ives Leyte, whom they believe could be living in the North Okanagan.

An unmanned barge with 70,000 litres of diesel oil in its fuel tank sank late Saturday in rough seas as it was being towed off southwestern Nova Scotia.The vessel went down about 80 kilometres southeast of Yarmouth after towing lines were severed by the tug Atlantic Oak.

A Nova Scotia man will not spend any time behind bars for shaking his three-month-old baby so violently that she began having seizures and temporarily went blind.Kevin Bernard Kosinsky, 44, of Dartmouth was handed a conditional sentence yesterday in Provincial Court of two years less a day for criminal negligence causing bodily harm to Michaelah Parkyn in 2005. Three years later, there are signs that the little girl may never fully recover from her injuries.

Moncton lawyer Jolene Richard, who is married to New Brunswick Liberal MP Dominic LeBlanc, was appointed a Provincial Court judge yesterday. Ms. Richard, 49, the daughter of Guy Richard, former Chief Justice of the New Brunswick Court of Queen’s Bench, had a large litigation practice with the biggest law firm in Atlantic Canada, Stewart McKelvey. She practised for 15 years and was a partner in the Moncton office.
